Tuesday morning after breakfast we set off again, and very quickly arrived at a very difficult climb, designed to get you cross axled as you climb out of the mud and then over the rock steps.
Karl climbed it first; having no great problem as his Discovery is fitted with 35 inch Simex tyres and Locking Diffs both front and rear.
Then it was Phil’s turn. His 235/85 x 16 Mud Terrains without locking diffs did not have quite the same grip as Karl. This was one bit of track where a 90 was at a disadvantage to a 110, as the rear wheels slipped sideways, and it ended up cross axled. After 3 or 4 attempts it was obvious that he was not going to make it, so Karl gave him a short tow.
It was then my turn, and at third attempt I succeeded in scrambling up over the rocks.
We continued through some beautiful woods, looping round the south-west of Villeneuve, and then descending back into the valley just South of Villeneuve.
After lunch we went along to some land belonging to Alain down by the river and tried out his Mud hole, and also christened Phil’s Ground anchor which he bought from Scorpion Racing before his Iceland trip and did not use there as it was the driest summer the Icelanders have had in years. It was very easy to use, and we all very impressed with it.
We went from here back to Villeneuve, and climbed up onto the top of the hill behind the ruined Chateau which is directly opposite the hotel.
